Throughout my entrepreneurial journey, there have been numerous instances where I believed in the existence of a hidden secret that could propel my path to success.
For instance, In my tries to build a successful business I believed that there was a secret growth hack—a magic button that, when pressed, would skyrocket my business (We all have been there aren’t we?). My quest led me to experiment with various strategies. While some provided short-term spikes, sustainable growth came from understanding my target audience, delivering consistent value, and fostering genuine relationships.
The Allure of the Unknown: It’s human nature to believe that there’s a hidden piece of the puzzle, a secret that’s been kept from us.This obsession stems from our inherent desire to avoid blame. If we can attribute our lack of success or understanding to a missing piece of knowledge, it’s easier to digest than admitting personal shortcomings.
How to use it: In the realm of marketing, this psychological insight is gold. By presenting our product or service as that elusive secret and weaving it into our offer, we tap into a deep-seated human desire—the thirst for missing knowledge.
Revelation Trumps Explanation: A concept or fact is explained but a secret gets revealed. While explanations provide clarity, revelations lead to transformation. When we lead our audience to a revelation, the impact is profound. It’s the difference between telling someone the importance of a balanced diet and uncovering them the secret of getting shredded.
As marketers, our goal should be to guide our audience towards these revelations and not just explaining the product features.
